Based on statistics of Covid-19 vaccine demand of localities, the provincial medical sector informed that the province still lacks 500 doses of Moderna vaccine. The locality that lacks 500 doses of Moderna vaccine for children aged 6 and over is Phu Giao district. According to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (Ministry of Health), the institute has fully provided Moderna vaccine to provinces and cities to give priority to the 2nd injection for children aged 6 to under 12 who have received the 1st dose of Moderna vaccine.
However, some localities have used Moderna vaccine as a booster shot for adults, leading to a shortage of Moderna vaccine for children. The reason is that many children who were sick and infected with Covid-19, have to postpone vaccination, and many families have children who received 1st dose of Moderna vaccine but do not take their children to receive the 2nd dose, while Moderna vaccine is only used up to 30 days from defrosting.
To support localities, the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology transferred Moderna vaccine between localities and coordinated with UNICEF to be able to receive Moderna vaccine early, ensuring children aged 6 to under 12 are vaccinated as prescribed.
